Joshua Speer M. Agr, AF-I

Founder & Farrier

Rocking Speer Ranch, LLP is veteran owned and operated by Joshua and Teresa Speer.  Joshua retired from the United States Marine Corps with over 18 years of years of honorable and faithful service. In December of 2021, Joshua earned his Master of Agriculture (M.Agr.) in Agricultural Sciences – Integrated Resource Management Specialization. Joshua received interdisciplinary training in animal science, business, range science, ecology, wildlife, policy, and human resources. This fusion of topics provided him education and skills in how agricultural resource systems work together in a comprehensive way in an agricultural management setting. He has an understanding of the land resource system and how to manage land-based enterprises.

 

In April 2022, Joshua completed the 12 Week Advanced Horseshoeing and Blacksmith Course at Oklahoma Horseshoeing School; starting the Farrier division of Rocking Speer Ranch, LLP. Upon his return he began serving Richland, Missouri and the surrounding area. Since the inception of Farrier Services, Joshua has provided farrier services for thousands of different horses of different disciplines: trail horses, performance and eventing horses, and therapeutic shoeing.  Joshua provides hoof-care education for clients through literature, social media, and hands on experience.

Over the past 2.5 years, Joshua has embedded himself within the farrier community. He has shod under veteran farriers with over 20 years of experience, enlisted a wide variety of mentors withing the community, and continues to attend formal and informal continuing education opportunities.  He has shod in a wide variety of environments throughout central Missouri, southwest Missouri, and across eastern and southern Oklahoma. He has served horses at world renowned facilities such as Lazy E Ranch and Arena, Oakland Equine Hospital, and Oklahoma Horseshoeing School.

In February 2023, Joshua became a Wellness Partner with That Others May Live (TOML) and a Horse-set Service Provider for Bemer Group, USA. In May 2023, Rocking Speer Ranch, LLP signed on with Rafter S Arena and Select The Best as part of their Professional Horsemen Program. In May 2024, Joshua earned the title of AF-I with the International Association of Professional Farriers.

Colorado State University

The Master of Agriculture in Agricultural Sciences Integrated Resource Management program teaches students to understand how agricultural resource systems work together in a comprehensive way, and how to apply them in an agricultural management setting.

International Association of Professional Farriers (IAPF)

Completed the Foundation Credentialing Program with the IAPF achieving the Accredited Farrier - Level I (AF-I) designation. This foundation credential is an essential cornerstone for the credentialing program and provides the basic information required for farriery.

Oklahoma Horseshoeing School

The Advanced Horseshoeing and Blacksmithing Course is the most complete course of horseshoeing study. You will receive twice the benefit of the Professional Horse- shoeing Course. From week one to week eight you will achieve the OHS Professional level. Once a Professional, you can increase your skill twice as far in weeks nine through twelve. This course will teach you everything you can learn in horseshoeing school.

April 2023

Oklahoma Horseshoeing School

OHS offers Continuing Education to graduates of any Horseshoeing School. This is specified to the needs of the student. Our CF and CJF Instructors can help you get ready for a certification, tune up on certain skills or help with a certain area of Farrier work that you may be struggling in. Our barn is open 24/7 with access to forges for practice. You can come as often as needed and stay for consecutive weeks if needed also.

Enrolled with the IAPF nutritional credentialing program. This credential focuses on equine nutrition. 

  • Requires the completion (100%) of a 295-question multiple choice test covering a equine nutrition. 

  • Farrier earns 24 IAPF Continuing Education credits for successful completion
